Why Creating Equality
Presently there are serious difficulties for many women to integrate in the labour market in almost any work sectors in Spain. Opening new routes of employment seems necessary to reach these large unemployment pockets of women. Access to jobs depends on employability, that is, the ability of a person to achieve a work post satisfying their professional and economic aspirations, and to reach a basic quality of life.
The project is aimed to improve women conditions, not only regarding unemployment, but also precarious working conditions. To do so, the project focuses on several factors affecting these situations:
- The high incidence of part-time employment in the female population, much higher than in males. This should be added to the large proportion of temporal work that affect one third of women in Spain.
- The wage gap between men and women is other fact to take into account. This is a constant in the Spanish labour market and a priority to be addressed by the EU.
- Besides, women also suffer from vertical and horizontal segregation at work, concentrating in a few labour areas, many of them linked to the services sector, and in the lower end of the organizational ladder.
- Finally, the difficulties to conciliate personal, family and labour life especially affect women.
